A Radical Decision For The Amaryllis Bed
Yesterday, my truck temp registered 101° Fahrenheit … and my body was was feeling it! I had been in and out of the A/C as I ran errands around town, and my energy was sapped by the time I got back home. Temps like these make everything wilted and withered, especially newly planted landscaping.
I dug this new bed the first day of June and planted some Amaryllis bulbs my mom had divided from her flower gardens. This pic was made 10 days after I planted them, and I thought they would stand up within the next few days. They really did try, but our heat has done a number on them, and last night when I went out to water them they looked really miserable. That’s when I made the decision … Tomorrow, I will give them a summer ‘hair cut’.
Ahhhh … now THAT’S better! Maybe not better looking ‘today’, but I think the plants will survive our hot summer much better this way, and by next spring they will be standing tall and looking good like their brothers and sisters in my mom’s garden …

Aren’t they beautiful? My mom has a green thumb, as you can see! I can hardly wait until my yards are established and beautiful like hers.
This summer, I added four new flower beds and one raised bed garden for veggies. Putting the new beds in was a lot of work, but they add SO much curb appeal to our home, and they give our property a strong sense of peace and tranquility. My goal is to make our home feel like an oasis to my family … a place to retreat from the harshness of the world outside our gate.
